One of the most pressing global issues of our time is climate change. Our increasing susceptibility to climate change has been clearly demonstrated by recent events. Agriculture will be affected, further jeopardizing food security, and climate change will also have an impact on sea level rise, coastal erosion, the intensification of natural disasters, the extinction of species, and the spread of vector-borne diseases.
NAPCC or, the National Action Plan on Climate Change
On June 30, 2008, the Prime Minister announced the release of NAPCC or, the National Action Plan on Climate Change the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC). It lays out a national strategy that aims to help India adapt to climate change and make the country's development path more ecologically sustainable. It emphasizes the importance of maintaining a high growth rate for reducing India's vulnerability to the effects of climate change and raising the standard of living of the vast majority of its citizens. The National Action Plan's core is made up of eight "National Missions." Energy efficiency, natural resource conservation, and climate change comprehension are their primary objectives.
Missions within National Action Plan for Climate Change - A total of 8 National Missions on climate change are there as listed below:
1. National Solar Mission
2. National Mission for Enhanced Energy Efficiency
3. National Mission on Sustainable Habitat
4. National Water Mission
5. National Mission for Sustaining the Himalayan Eco-system
6. National Mission for a Green India
7. National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture
8. National Mission on Strategic Knowledge for Climate Change
The Principles of NAPCC are:
1. Preserving the poor through a strategy for inclusive, long-term development that takes into account climate change.
2. Achieving national growth goals and reducing poverty while ensuring environmental sustainability.
3. End-use demand-side management strategies that is both efficient and cost-effective.
4. Rapid and extensive deployment of appropriate adaptation and mitigation technologies.
5. Market, regulatory, and voluntary mechanisms for sustainable development that are novel.
6. Effective implementation through unique connections with civil society, local governments, and partnerships between the public and private sectors.
