India has a lot of banks, so the list of scheduled banks is long. All cooperative, multinational, regional, and scheduled rural banks are included. The following are additional subcategories of scheduled banks:

Number of Scheduled Commercial Banks in India

1. Scheduled Public Sector Banks within India - The banks in question are those in which the Indian government owns more than half of the stock. Consequently, the government has the largest stake in PSBs. There will be 12 public sector banks in 2022, but there were once 27 that had merged.

2. Scheduled Private Sector Banks within India - Private companies hold the largest stakes in these banks. In total, there are 21 private-sector banks. Customers of all private sector banks can take advantage of a wide range of banking and financial services. There are two types of private-sector banks:

a. Private Sector Banks from the Past (banks that were established prior to 1968)

b. New Private Sector Banks (banks that were established after 1968)

3. Scheduled Foreign Banks within India - There exist 45 foreign banks in India. Foreign banks are international financial institutions that must abide by the laws of their home and host nations.
