ULPIN or, the Unique Land Parcel Identification Number is an Alpha-numeric 14-digit unique ID for each land parcel-based on the geo-coordinates of the parcel's vertices as conceptualised in 2020-21. This conforms to the Electronic Commerce Code Management Association (ECCMA) standard and the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standard. The following are the ULPIN's distinguishing characteristics:
• Founded on the general geometry underlying the boundary principle
• When parcels are divided, a new alpha-numeric number is created
• The Unique Land Parcel Identifier Number (ULPIN) technical architecture is compatible with any open source software programme regardless of geographical location
• Depending on the security procedure and sensitivity, it is shown with or without geo coordinates
• This applies to both horizontal and vertical features
• For numerous units of a same property, a unique number can be created
According to the Rural Development Ministry, ULPIN has been approved by 26 states and union territories thus far.
• The Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme (DILRMP) includes the Unique Land Parcel Identification Number (ULPIN).
• A ULPIN, also known as a Bhu-Aadhar number, is a 14-digit identification number assigned to a property lot.
• It would individually identify each surveyed piece of land and help to combat land fraud, particularly in rural India where land records are obsolete and contested.
• The identification is grounded upon the land parcel's latitude and longitude coordinates and bases upon comprehensive surveys as well as cadastral maps that are geo-referenced.
• It tries to gather all detail about various properties from around the country.
• ULPIN is an authoritarian and a solitary Source of Truth for information on any piece of land or property in order to offer people and other stakeholders with Integrated Land Services.
• The ULPIN will be connected to various forms of data pertaining to landed properties that are now in the custody of several ministries and departments.
